Leon Human is a British violinist based in London. He graduated with First-Class Honours from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he studied with the renowned violinist Stephanie Gonley. His earlier mentors include Peter Thomas, former Leader of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Judith Stowe, long-time member of Britten Sinfonia. His playing has been recognised with numerous accolades, including the Jack Petchey Award and First Prize at both the Louis Watt Memorial Solo Competition and the Stratford & East London Music Festival.

A dedicated chamber musician, Leon co-founded Quartet Concrete, winners of the St James Prize. The ensemble has performed at venues including St James’s Piccadilly and the Barbican Centre, and appeared at festivals including the Guildhall Chamber Music Festival and Nantwen Chamber Music Festival. In summer 2024, the quartet held a residency at Lake District Summer Music, presenting a wide range of recitals and performing alongside Trio Shaham Erez Wallfisch and the Alkyona Quartet. During the residency, they received coaching from the Brodsky Quartet and the Heath Quartet. A subsequent residency in Metz with Quatuor Diotima featured performances of À vif and The Weather of It. Recent highlights include debuts at Conway Hall and Opera Holland Park. The quartet also explored cross-genre collaborations, most notably with Sienna Spiro, performing at the O2 Academy Brixton, Wilton’s Music Hall, and Villars Palace in Switzerland. Their recording of Butterfly Effect has surpassed 2.1 million streams, and they joined Spiro at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 2025. Since leaving the quartet in September 2025, chamber music has remained central to Leon’s career. He performs regularly with pianist and duo partner Lucy Barratt, with whom he recently won the Jubilee Piano Accompaniment Prize, and continues to appear in chamber concerts at Fidelio Café.

Leon is also a core member of the award-winning contemporary ensemble Rothko Collective, winners of the 2022 Nonclassical Battle of the Bands. The group has collaborated with composers including Caroline Shaw and Bryce Dessner, commissioned numerous premieres, and performed across the UK and Europe. Their recordings have been released in collaboration with Nonclassical and SATE51. In November 2025, they appeared at the Venice Biennale, collaborating with composer Jasmine Morris.

Leon’s orchestral experience includes serving as Leader of the London Schools Symphony Orchestra for three years, touring internationally and collaborating with artists including Elena Urioste, Pacho Flores, Ryan Wigglesworth, and Richard Farnes. He recently guest-led Brixton Chamber Orchestra on its first spring tour and will rejoin the orchestra this summer. He currently serves as Concertmaster of the Odyssey Festival Orchestra, performing regularly at major London venues.

Alongside his classical work, Leon performs with major pop artists at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Stadium, and The O2 Arena. Collaborations include Dua Lipa, Raye, Becky Hill, Sampha, Olympia Vitalis, Nas, and Sienna Spiro. As a freelance orchestral musician, Leon performs with ensembles including Britten Sinfonia, 12 Ensemble, Fantasia Orchestra, Fidelio Orchestra, The London Handel Players, The London Opera Company, and The Heritage Orchestra. He made his solo debut at the Barbican Centre in 2019, directing Violin Concerto in E major with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra. Other solo appearances include performances with the Wood Street Chamber Orchestra, Morley Chamber Orchestra, and CYM Chamber Orchestra.
