Leon Human is a British violinist based in London who recently graduated with a first class honours from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he was awarded a scholarship to enter the class of acclaimed violinist Stephanie Gonley. As a passionate chamber musician, Leon relishes playing with Quartet Concrete where he has been guided by musicians including Krysia Osostowicz, Andaras Keller, Stephanie Gonley, Richard Lester to name a few. The quartet won the St james prize at Guildhall leading to numerous performances at St james Piccadilly and has been one of the few student ensembles to be invited to perform in the Guildhall Chamber Music Festival several years in a row. They recently took part in the prestigious Lake District Summer music festival which included masterclasses with both the Heath and Brodsky Quartets as well as multiple concerts of Beethoven’s Quartet No. 1 in F major, Op. 18, No. 1 and String Quartet No. 7. Last spring, Leon organised a mini tour with his Duo partner Lucy Barratt centred around Franck's Violin Sonata and Beethoven's Spring Sonata and they look forward to concerts in May 2025.

As a musician dedicated to exploring and pushing boundaries, Leon also enjoys the challenge of playing contemporary music with the Rothko collective (winner of the 2022 nonclassical battle of the bands competition), commissioning new works as well as playing music by composers such as Caroline Shaw, Bryce Dessner and Naomi Pinnock. He relishes playing with the Britten Sinfonia and participated at last summer’s Aldeburgh Festival.

Founded by conductor Peter Ash, Leon always looks forward to leading the Odyssey Festival Orchestra, which are currently in their third season. Leading Mahler 5 at Cadogan Hall has been a particular highlight and he looks forward to January 2025 where they will perform an all Mussorgsky Programm.

Before joining Guildhall, Leon was taught by a former leader of the CBSO, Peter Thomas, who was a massive inspiration and musical figure in his life. Other teachers who have also shaped and influenced him thus far have included Judith Stowe and Suzie Collier. In 2019, he made his Solo debut at the Barbican, directing Bach’s Violin Concerto in E major with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra. Other appearances as a soloist include Mozart's 5th Violin Concerto with Wood Street Chamber Orchestra, Samuel Coleridge Taylor's ballade in D Minor with Morley Chamber orchestra, and Mendlsohns Violin concerto with CYM Chamber Orchestra. Leon has been also selected for masterclasses with Krysia Osostowicz, Wolfgang Redik, and Andaras Keller to name a few. As concertmaster of LSSO for two years, he worked with inspirational conductors including Richard Farnes, Sian Edwards, and Ryan Wigglseworth, and soloists such as Pacho Flores, Rachael Nicholls, Tom Bowes and Elena Urioste.
